Frequently Asked Questions

So, what exactly is OCPhA and what do you do?
OCPhA stands for the Orange County Pharmacists Association. We are the largest local chapter of the California Pharmacists Association and we serve the Orange County area of pharmacy professionals. Our goals are to defend, promote, and expand the profession. You can find out more by navigating to About–> Mission Statement.

Who can join OCPhA?
Our membership includes pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy students, and associate members.

When and where are the meetings?
Our meetings typically occur on the first Thursday every month except for July and December. We do not have meetings in July and December. The location will vary either online via Zoom or in person with networking opportunities. You can find the latest meeting information on our homepage, the calendar page, or on our social media outlets. Should you have any questions about our monthly meetings, feel free to email us at info@ocpha.org.

Will the organization help me get connected with people?
OCPhA has approximately 700 members that include multiple disciplines of practice, including community, compounding, managed care, management, law, investigational drugs, informatics, and many more. You will be able to connect with other members through our major social events throughout the year.

How do I volunteer for local events through OCPhA?
We occasionally hold health fairs or partner up with community organizations for community outreach events. For health fairs, you can volunteer by navigating to Member Resources –> Community Service and signing up through the desired links. Community service activities will be posted on our News section and through our member mailing list accordingly.

What does OCPhA do with legislature and how do I get involved?

Our Legislative Committee is committed to local grassroot efforts to promote and expand our profession. We do this in multiple ways: meetings with local legislators, tracking current important bills, holding touring events to educate legislators on what pharmacists do, and much more. OCPhA also works in conjunction with OCSHP to identify legislative bills that affect pharmacists of all practices in order to present a unified voice to our local legislators. To view bills that are being tracked, you can navigate to Advocacy –> Legislative Tracker. To get more involved, please email legislative@ocpha.org.

Does OCPhA offer any mentorship opportunities?
OCPhA has relaunched the mentorship program as of 2023. More info will be updated in the future.

How often does OCPhA offer educational programs? Is CE included?
We try to hold an education program every month if we are able to. The programs will be emailed to our membership when they are open for RSVP. Programs are typically about certain disease states and treatment options, such as HIV, Hepatitis, and others. If the program is labeled as a Dinner Program, there will not be CE provided. If the program is labeled as a CE Program, CE will be provided.

What kind of social events do you have?
We currently have 3 major events of the year in addition to our local meetings.
  • Family Picnic: During the summer, we hold a family picnic at a local park for our members to bring their friends and family to have fun and network.
  • Wine & Cheese: This event happens during the fall season and also serves as the kick-off event for our mentorship program.
  • Annual Social: This is our flagship event of the year in which we hold at a large venue that includes gaming tables, music, entertainment, and great networking opportunities.
