OCPhA Pharmacist of the Year

OCPhA would like to congratulate Dr. Tony Dao, PharmD, CPHIMS for receiving the OCPhA Pharmacist of the Year award this year!

Dr. Tony Dao has been part of the OCPhA board since 2012 and has been instrumental in communications and expanding the social media reach of the organization. He’s served on the board of directors, as digital outreach chair, and also as a past president of the organization.

Outside of OCPhA, Dr. Dao is a pharmacy informatics specialist at CHOC Children’s since 2017 and works on a multitude of technology applications in pharmacy. He received his degree at USC School of Pharmacy in 2012 and started his career on an EHR implementation at Ventura County Health Care Agency, remaining there until 2017 for maintenance of the EHR and implementation of additional technology applications related to automation and clinical decision support. He also keeps his clinical skills up by working as a per-diem inpatient pharmacist at Kindred Healthcare. In 2019, he started the first pharmacy informatics-specific podcast, Pharmacy, IT, & Me, as a means to educate students and pharmacists on the ever-expanding field of pharmacy informatics. Through his passion for spreading awareness of pharmacy informatics, he also co-founded the Pharmacy Informatics Academy with like-minded colleagues.

Dr. Dao also volunteers his time for various organizations. He precepts health fairs for USC and sits on the Editorial Advisory Board for Pharmacy Times. Aside from OCPhA, he is also an active member of OCSHP and part of the Section Advisory Groups at ASHP‘s Section of Pharmacy Informatics and Technology. He also provides guest lectures for various pharmacy schools and undergraduate programs about pharmacy technology and careers.
